Issue Overview
Michael McMann returns for another session to discuss how to provide quality education through innovation in rural communities across Canada. Education is a critical component to maintaining rural communities. Without schools, rural communities are challenged to find new workers and bring young families. For this session, we want to explore innovation's impact on a rural community's education and the strengths inherent in rural education. In our upcoming Thought Exchange, we hope to learn from innovators in the field and answer some of the following questions:
For the first half hour of the session, we will discuss open educational resources as a way for rural communities to leverage the work of others willing to share their ideas, resources, and programs. Open educational resources are an innovative learning approach to keeping education accessible. Rural educators and learners may benefit from using and sharing learning materials.
After our preliminary discussion on open educational resources, Mike McMann will join us at 10:30 to discuss the many different ways to cultivate innovation in education.
- How does innovating help education?
- Can quality education help build innovation in rural communities?
- How can a community build innovative educational opportunities?
- What are examples of educational innovation that use technology well?
- What are examples of educational innovation that support rural culture?
